just a note for those who had centos with raid1 set up and one of those disks was used for this install, you might need to wipe out the contents before getting a clean install.
well done on the restore cd james. will let you know how it goes.

How long should the setup take generally?
I tried the disk for the first time this morning, and it seemed to stall both times.
The first time it appeared to be stalled with something like 'setting up base directories' on the lcd.
The second time it seemed to stall with 'removing partitions' on the screen.
In both cases, I saw some network activity happening, but no disk activity. I can't say how long for sure they were stuck in that state, as I had walked away to do other things after starting the install. However, in both cases I left the supposed stalled message for at least another 10 minutes after I discovered it.
I might be able to give this another try on Saturday when I can actually stay by the machine and watch it does. Maybe I could also try it on one of my other raq4's

awesome installer! super easy, once you learn patience. I restarted twice because I thought it was hung on the portmap - should have read the forum first...
I had debian working prior to this with kernel 2.4.15. it worked, but I had to install alien in order to convert rpm's to dpkg's to install.
took about 35 minutes, start to finish.
raq3i / 300mhz
256mb ram
15gb hdd
well done. thanks.

mmabob, have you tried to put just one clean disk with no partition information? that is one area where i got stuck on. i do not believe there is provision for raid1 on this release.

Jimbob, the installer woked perfectly just as you described!
It took almost exactly 35 minutes.
I tried it again this morning on my raq4r. I have not changed anything about the raq since the last install attempt. I have not changed anything about the config of the rack since the first attempt even. Silly as it sounds, the only thing I did different was stand around and watch it. The only difference was that I was there to wiggle the mouse on the restore laptop every 5-8 minutes. I can't imagine that made a difference as the laptop never actually 'went to sleep' or 'hibernate' on the previous installs.
For whatever reason, it worked this time, and I thank you. I use centos4 at work on all the servers I work with, and I'm so glad you created a Raq installer. I'll be sure to load this on my other 2 raq4's.
Thanks again Jimbob!

Jimbob,
Took a few tries - kept hanging on "ready to install" until I disconnected the second drive.
Sucessfully installed on 2 RaQ4r's. (K6-500, 512MB, WD 80GB, 2.10.3-ext3)
Thanks again for the installer!
Any chance on RAID1 in the future? (I'd be glad to test)
Works for me!
