BlueQuartz

BlueQuartz

Built on the Cobalt RaQ 550 source code, the BlueQuartz project was set up to port the Cobalt management software to standard computers.

Features of the BlueQuartz Administration Panel:

Integrated self monitoring (Active Monitor)

The Active monitor periodically polls the system for hardware, software and system services faults.
This ensures that if there is a problem with the email system, Web server, DNS, ssh and ftp daemons, the
System Administrator will be informed by email. The Active Monitor also checks on disk quotas. So if a user
or site exceeds the amount allocated disk space, the Active Monitor will send a notification of this to the
System Administrator.

Apache Web server

The Apache web server is the most common http server in use on the internet.
Apache is a highly configurable and secure http server. It is often used in conjuction with the scripting language PHP  and MySQL the worlds most popular open source database. This arrangement is often called LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) and is the platform of choice for the majority of web application developers world wide.

One of the main problems with LAMP, is that it can be difficult to configure. This is not an issue with BlueQuartz, new LAMP sites can be created in a couple of clicks.

Email server

BlueQuartz includes a highly configurable email server. Email can be sent and retrieved using many popular methods including IMAP, IMAPS, POP, POPS, SMTP, SMTPS and SMTP auth. When used with the popular anti-spam system SpamAssassin, this email system has proven to be very reliable and almost spam free.
Users can have multiple email aliases, email forwarding and vacation settings all modified through the BlueQuartz user interface.
The BlueQuartz administration panel is a very easy to use and offers a highly flexible email solution.

Integrated DNS server

Many companies prefer to control of the DNS (domain name servers) of their domains. There are many reasons for this.
Managin your own DNS enables:

  • The ability to quickly change the IP address of a website (preventing downtime).
  • Avoid downtime as the result of a third party network outage.
  • Easy creation of subdomains

The BlueQuartz administration panel makes this easy to manage.

Other popular features included in BlueQuartz:

  • FTP server
  • SSH server
  • SSL support
  • IP address allocation
  • Bandwidth Limiting
  • Web Statistics
